Wild monkey spotted along lake - Caution
Announcements Gatehousestaff writes "To Residents,
At approximately 8:10AM, Friday, Feb. 18th, a wild monkey was spotted running inside the community, along a lakefront on Lake Markham Preserve. A report was made to the HOA and SC Animal Services was dispatched; The animal was not found.
Please report any future sightings to the gatehouse, as monkeys in the wild can be very dangerous. Monkeys are considered an invasive species in Florida.

ALERT - Please don't leave the door open for your housekeeper etc....
Security Gatehousestaff writes "Ref: Burglary/Grand Theft overwith; Occurred 2 weeks ago.

To Residents,
The HOA & gatehouse have been notified that a Burglary/Grand Theft occurred a few weeks ago to a resident's home where a large amount of jewelry($30,000) was stolen in a manner specific to a contractor having prior knowledge of the home's floor plan and where specific jewelry was kept. A report was filed with the HOA and the DVR camera footage is being checked.
2 residents have reported two(2) teenage white males, unfamiliar, in and around the community.
SCSO, 3rd shift watch commander has been notified.
The gatehouse recommends that if you have housekeepers or pet sitters etc....that you leave a side door open for, please change that door's lock and issue them their own keys, so that the door is always locked, while you are away. The lock can always be changed and new keys issued if necessary. It appears that is how the perpetrators entered the home.

Please report any suspicious persons seen within the community or near the area walls to the gatehouse, during regular hours and after hours to an HOA officer and or call the SCSO business line at 407-665-6500 and request a deputy dispatched to conduct a field interview of the subjects.(FCC/FIR)

For all emergencies, dial 911

Respectfully,
Tom Shaffer

Access Code Box - Intercom Security
Security Gatehousestaff writes "To Residents,
Just a courtesy reminder, that if you don't know who is buzzing you at the access code box-intercom, do not let them in. Last night a real estate shopper attempted to get in by buzzing a resident and saying, "phonebook delivery". The individual was not let in. A report was made and the HOA was notified, and an approved request for extra patrol was made through SCSO.

DVR camera footage was viewed & saved: Older model, full-sized, 4dr Buick, in mint condition, with a black convertible top, with a FL wheelchair license plate, occupied by a black male in his ~40's, weighing ~275+ lbs, with a shaved head, glasses and a very thin border beard. If you see this vehicle or person, dial 911/SCSO.

Respectfully,
Gatehouse Staff, Tom Shaffer"

Walk-Thru gate keys are available at the gatehouse
Security Gatehousestaff writes "To Lake Markham Preserve Residents,
Keys to the Walk-Thru Gate, located along the sidewalk by the gatehouse, are available at the gatehouse to residents at a cost of $3.00 each. (Used for after hours access when the iron gates are closed)

All of the keys have been tested and work, but there is a catch: You must first put the key all the way into the lock, then pull it out approximately 1/16 of an inch, then turn left until it catches, then pull down on the handle, and then the gate will open.

If you experience any problems with your key, please bring it by the gatehouse so I may check it.

To purchase your key, please see Percy or Tom.

Respectfully,
Tom Shaffer

Safety Alert - Otters in Pond #1
Security Gatehousestaff writes "Safety Alert:

Last weekend, gatehouse staff filed a report noting 3 otters entering the community early Saturday morning. Five days later, a deer was found horribly killed at the edge of the 1st pond, where Animal Services removed it 3 days later.
We are inspecting the ponds.
Unknown cause of death, so far.

For safety, do not approach & go near wild otters.
Clear the area of children & pets. Otters can weigh 25 lbs. and can climb into boats.

Please report all otters or alligators seen, promptly to gatehouse staff, who will notify the HOA board to determine the best course of action.

See copy/paste link of an otter attack.
