Seven Security Tips and Preventative Measures
Security Gatehousestaff writes "Seven suggestions to prevent future intrusions into the community, regarding the 2-4 & 2-5 overnight vehicle burglaries.

1) Routinely, once a year or more, call Beth
Parker at Sentry Mgmt. 407-788-6700 ext.
213 and request your 4 digit access code be
changed, as a precaution.

2) Vehicles continue to follow residents
inside the community, after hours, nearly
every night, as seen on the camera
review: To prevent this, after entering,
simply pause a few seconds, just past the
gate, denying the following vehicle entry.
The vehicle behind you will have to back-up.
The gate only opens for 8 seconds.
NEVER get out of your vehicle or make
contact with the following vehicle.

3) Lock all vehicles parked outside your residence.

4) Install cameras that face into the street areas.
If an incident occurs, together we can share
information, resulting in an arrest.

5) Limit the number of individuals that have
your 4 digit access code.

6) Periodically, look out your windows at
night and if you see persons that appear
suspicious, dial 911 and let the SCSO
deputy check them out. SCSO has
24/7 access to the community.

7) Install outside motion sensor flood lights
that trigger an interior alarm or light that
awakens you. Wireless system.

Remote gate openers - now available - $25
Security Gatehousestaff writes "The HOA has purchased extra remote gate openers for any resident that wishes to purchase one.
Please make checks payable to the Lake Markham Preserve Home Owners Association in the amount of $25.00. (This is a reduced rate, as they usually cost $28.00)

The gatehouse has 3 that are available. Gatehouse staff will record your payment & forward all monies to the HOA Treasurer, who will forward the checks to Sentry Management.

Have a great day.
Please remember to always keep your vehicle doors locked.

Safe speed thru front gates
Security Gatehousestaff writes "Dear Lake Markham Preserve Residents,
The HOA has commented on "safe speed" through the gates, for those that have remote-gate-openers. Presently, the authorized "safe speed" through the gates is 5 mph. Residents are urged to please not accelerate through the gates, but rather to coast through the gates and then after clearing the gatehouse area, resume normal speed. Several reasons for this request include that pedestrians & pets are obscured from a drivers sight around the gatehouse area and brick wall. Also, just past the gates, at the first median/ island, there presents a blind spot to approaching drivers, as pedestrians may be obscured from sight.

Please drive safely and watch for pedestrians

Thank you for kind attention in this matter.

Gatehouse Staff-Tom"

General Safety & Security Tips to Aviod Indentity Theft
Security Gatehousestaff writes "Tips To Help Avoid Identity Theft

1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers of your credit card. The credit card company knows the rest of the number and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone number on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a Post Office Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your Social Security Number printed on your checks. You can add it if necessary. But if you have it printed on your checks, anyone can get it.

4. Copy the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine and copy both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. If you travel abroad, carry a photocopy of your passport.

Here's how you can limit the damage in the event your wallet or purse has been lost or stolen:

* We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.
* File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction in which you walletot purse was stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation.
* Call the three national credit-reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.
